Navigating the world of special education can be complicated. In my private practice as a special education advocate and disability specialist, I assist parents throughout Connecticut in attempting to secure appropriate special education services for children with disabilities.
I became passionate about special education advocacy through my own experiences of advocating for my son who was diagnosed with autism long before its prevalence grew to today's alarming numbers. So, while autism is the primary focus of my advocacy practice, I also advocate on behalf of all other disabilities.
When you retain my services, I will:
- Obtain your child’s complete educational record.
- Review and explain your child’s records to you.
- Ascertain your concerns regarding your child and the services currently offered by his or her school.
- Inform you about special education rights, special education law and relevant educational issues.
- Objectively analyze your child’s educational program.
- Identify alternative options, including, if appropriate, additional evaluation.
- Assist you in obtaining the most appropriate educational program for your child pursuant to federal law.
- Help you participate more fully in the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) process and helo you learn how to advocate for your child to the best of you ability.
- Accompany you to PPT meetings.
- Accompany you to mediation hearings, if necessary.
- Assist you in the follow up with the school concerning the proper implementation of and success of your child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP), if requested by parent.
