As a parent, you want to ensure that your child is getting the education that he or she is entitled to.  Many parents can be  overwhelmed by the Special Education Process.  Julie  is a trained, professional special education advocate who knows how to navigate the Connecticut Special Education System.  Julie’s expertise enables parents to work more effectively with special educators and administrators to plan and obtain appropriate educational services for their children with disabilities.

“In my private practice as a Special Education Advocate and Disability Specialist I represent and assist parents throughout Connecticut; I speak regularly on disability-related issues at professional organizations and parent groups throughout the State and I appear regularly on Connecticut affiliate news stations discussing a variety of special education issues.

I became passionate about Special Education Advocacy through my own experiences of advocating for my son who was diagnosed with autism long before its prevalence grew to today's alarming numbers.

I  advocate on behalf of children whose disabilities include:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Speech or Language Impairments
  • Intellectual Disabilities
  • Emotional Disturbances
  • Hearing Impairments
  • Vision Impairments
  • Orthopedic Impairments
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Multi Disciplinary Concerns
  • Other Health Impairments

When you retain my services, I will:
  • Assess and explain your child’s complete educational record;
  • Ascertain your concerns regarding your child and the services currently offered by his or her school;
  • Inform you about Special Education rights, Special Education law and relevant educational issues;
  • Objectively analyze your child’s educational program;
  • Identify alternative options, including, if appropriate, additional evaluations; and possible alternative placements;
  • Assist you in obtaining the most appropriate educational program for your child pursuant to Federal Law;
  • Help you participate more fully in the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) process while you learn to  become a more effective  parent  advocate for your child;
  • Accompany you to PPT meetings;
  • Accompany you to mediation hearings, if needed;
  • Assist you in  follow up with your  school team regarding the implementation and success of your child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP);
  • Optimize  Resources available  to you in terms of  other  disability related  organizations,  educational and medical professionals, providers and various consultants who can help  provide your child’s educational team with the information they require to provide the most appropriate educational program;

YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION IS NOT JUST ACADEMICS,

I can help you attain appropriate services addressing the following programming issues;
  • Development of Behavior Interventions Plans
  • Social Skills Building
  • Socialization Plans- making and maintaining friendships
  • Addressing Bullying Issues
  • Communication
  • Adaptive Daily Living Skills
  • Home Programming
